L-291 (Ajibik Quartzite)
Ajibik Quartzite, also known as Ajibic, is a white to dark gray quartzite, frequently iron stained pink to purple. Displays distinctive concentric stainings which are likely Liesegang rings.
Geology remarks: Epoch- Early Proterozoic, Group- Chocolay, Group- Ajibic Quartzite, overlies the older Mesnard Quartzite and Kona Dolomite near Negaunee.
Location remarks: Outcrops at several places along a 40 mile expanse in an east/west direction from Michigamme to Harvey, Marquette Co., Michigan.
Archaeology remarks: Artifacts made of Ajibik Quartzite found at the Paquette Site located on the eastern end of Goose Lake approximately 8 miles southwest of the city of Marquette, Michigan and Lake Superior.
