(Information obtained from Burlington Type Sheet - Noted as probably Burlington by J.D.H. on Inventory Sheet) Burlington Chert is also known as Avon, Bowling Green, Crescent, Crescent Hills, Crescent Quarry, Grimes Hill, High Ridge, Hinkson Creek, Noix Creek, Hominy Creek, Iowa Burlington, Kampsville, Marshall, Marshall Mediocrity, Republic, St. Augustine, or Whetstone Creek. It is red, blue, green, white, brown, gray, pink, purple, yellow, tan, tan with plain, mixed, mottled, or striped colors. It becomes white, light gray, red, or pink when heat-treated. It becomes white to brownish gray when weathered. I may have Grapolite fossil inclusions of the Dendroidea order. It has a calcareous, coarse to very fine grain, vitreous, chalcedony-like texture.
