Supply title provided by Jake Homiak: "The Conquering Lion". Painting by Ras Mortimo Planno, (aka Brother Kumi), (Kingston, Jamaica c. 1974) famous for having been the only Dreadlocks Rastafari on the Jamaican government's Mission to Africa in 1961 and for having disembarked Emperor Haile Selassie from his aircraft after it landed in Jamaica on April 21, 1966. Oil on canvas board. Depicts Mortimo Planno sitting next to Emperor Haile Selassie I on his Throne seat as a lion severs and claws the heads of two European leaders and others look on. The painting can be seen to represent themes of biblical judgment that the Rastafari frequently associate with Emperor Haile Selassie I as the "Conquering Lion of Judah" and as "Earth's Rightful Ruler." Painting was a gift by Planno to anthropologist Carole Yawney. See also the Papers of Carole D. Yawney, National Anthropological Archives.
