Kidney shaped titanium pacemaker with a “MICROLITH V / TYPE VVI / MODEL 0505 / SN PG 107859 . . .” inscription on one side; and “CARDLAB PACEMAKER / ST. PAUL, MINN. U.S.A. / U.S. PAT. NO. 303. . . / OTHER PATS. PENDING” on the other. Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc. was founded by several Medtronic employees, in St Paul, in early 1972, and offered the first pacemakers with lithium-powered batteries.
