Description:
Perimeters are used to examine retinas. Karl Ernst Theodor Schweigger (1830-1905), a German ophthalmologist, introduced a hand-held model in 1889. An inscription on this example of that instrument reads "C. H. STOELTING CO / CHICAGO ILL." Stoelting boasted that this form was used by “the United States Surgeon General’s office and in many of the Psychological Laboratories of educational institutions for experimental work.”
