Description:
Frank S. Betz was a medical supply dealer who, by 1907, had moved to Hammond, Indiana. The “New Betz Microscope” that he offered in 1909 was said to be “a result of several years of close observation as to the best and cheapest instrument for the general wants of the physician which would at the same time combine many of the desirable features of higher priced instruments.”
This example was owned by John Grant Evans (1866-1957), a physician in New Hartford, Iowa. It is a compound monocular with coarse and fine focus, inclination joint, triple nose piece, two (of three) objectives, square stage, large sub-stage condenser, sub-stage mirror, horse-shoe base, and wooden case. The inscription reads “BETZ SPECIAL / CHICAGO, ILL.”
