Description (Brief):
A vertical electrostatic voltmeter, 800 to 8000 volts incorporating three weights having constants of 50, 100, and 200 grams. Catalog #42-A, serial #460. Contains a flat, two-lobe, aluminum, moving element with needle attached, pivoted between brass plates. In a glass and metal case in varnished wood box. Tag reads: "Lord Kelvin's / Patents / Electrostatic / Voltmeter No. 460 / Kelvin & James White, Ltd. / Glasgow, London". Purchased from Kelvin & James White, Ltd., by the US Bureau of Standards in 1903 with 1904 funds.
