This cup and saucer were designed by noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright for his spectacular Midway Gardens, a Chicago concert garden and restaurant built in 1914. Wright designed all the furnishings and the ornamentation to coordinate with his architectural design. The building was torn down in 1929.
The cup and saucer were a gift to the Smithsonian from the architect's son John Lloyd Wright.
