Description:
Henry Wurtz (1828-1910) was an American chemist who taught at various colleges, ran a consulting laboratory in New York, and edited the <i>American Gas-Light Journal</i>. This three-quarter bust pencil portrait is signed “Gussie Wurtz / Dumbarton / June 5th 1867.” It was done by his wife, Augusta Harrison Clark Wurtz.
