Description (Brief):
Wood chest with leather handle on top, hinged lid and locking clasp. Chest contains the "Cadiac Stimulator" which is fixed to the inside of the case. The electrical cardiac stimulator has an on/off toggle switch, two dials for adjusting "rate" and "intensity," two output jacks (one red, one black), and a depressable button labelled "defibrillator." Two electric probes attach to the output jacks - one is red and one black. The probes each have an hypodermic needle secured to the end with adhesive tape.
One of several pacemakers/defibrillators developed independently by physicians in the 1950's. This pacemaker was developed by the donor Jean B. Rosenbaum in 1951. The use of the pacemaker was recorded in a journal article in the American Heart Journal titled "Severe Adams-Stokes Syndrome Treated with Isuprel and an Artificial Pacemaker", published in 1954 by Douglas Chandler, M.D. and Jean Rosenbaum, B.A. (later M.D.) Developed at Wayne University College of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan.

Jean B. Rosenbaum, a recent graduate of Wayne State University, developed a pacemaker in 1951 while attending the Wayne University College of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. This is his original, hand-built model.
