Description:
This balance, which fits into and stands on a rectangular wooden box, has a brass post, an 8-inch steel beam with index, 2.75-inch brass pans, eight square weights, and a curious curved brass beam. A paper tag in the box reads “Dr. A. F. Erich / given by his daughter 3-9-29.” Augustus Frederick Erich (1837-1886) was an immigrant from Prussia who came to Maryland in 1856, and became a prominent physician in Baltimore.
