Postcard of baseball player Ron Northey. The card is part of a series made by the Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) between 1947-1966. Unlike traditional baseball cards, which were often offered as premiums or in packages, the large format Exhibit cards were dispensed from vending machines. ESCO released their first series of cards in 1921.
Outfielder Ron Northey (1920-1971) played Major League Baseball from 1942-1957. The lifetime .276 hitter moved around quite a bit during his career, playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago White Sox.
Northey began and ended his career with the Phillies, where he wore the number 4 featured on this card. The left-handed batter missed the 1945 season while enlisted in the United States Army.
