Description (Brief):
Nameplate reads: "Bi-polar Motor / No. 347 / Type '85 75 kw / Speed 2100 Volts 250 / General Electric Company"; on metal label: "Edison System-Patented / Dec. 23, 1879: Aug. 22, 1882 / Sept. 19, 1882; Oct. 10, 1882". Base plate stamped "273". Bi-polar DC motor has two curved pole pieces beneath field magnet axis. Armature turns thru field, and has segmented commutator on one end with two sets of carbon brushes affixed to a rigging mechanism which is adjustable with a rocker arm. No coupling wheel is provided.
