Description:
Brass field glasses with dark leather on the two barrels. The objective lenses are 5 cm diameter. Both eye cups are marked “MARCHAND * PARIS.” The left eye tube is marked “DAY & NIGHT” and the right one is marked “U.S. SIGNAL / SERVICE.” The words "MADE IN FRANCE" are stamped on the back side of the cross piece at the eye end. The carrying case is hard leather.
Marchand field glasses were sold by several American firms during the first quarter of the 20th century. This example may have been used by U.S. forces in Europe in World War I.
