Although schools were desegregated as determined by Brown -v- Board of Education, many inner city schools had primarily African American students and were less equipped than white schools. Busing was a way for African American students to attend better schools. Many did not agree with the busing and actively protested against it. The National Student Coalition Against Racisim was found in 1975 with the mission to "Unite everyone regardless of race and sex to fight against the struggle of racism."
