<p>This mute was made by an unknown maker in the United States, undetermined date. It is a small plunger mute made of rubber. Used in the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Written on the plunger:</p>
<p>Barrie Lee Hall Jr.</p>
<p>Barrie Lee Hall Jr. (1949-2011) was an American trumpeter, music director, and band leader of the Duke Ellington Small Band. He joined the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1973. Lee is recognized for his use of the plunger mute.</p>
