The authors are Jacob Albert William Young (1865-1948) , an associate professor of the pedagogy of mathematics at the Univerisy of Chicago, and Lambert L. Jackson (1870-1952) , formerly professor of mathematics at the State Normal School in Brockport, New York, and then an employee of Appleton and Company.According to the preface, the book was to cover material taught in the seventh and eighth grades. The chapters cover fundamental processes, fractions, denominate numbers, equations, percentage, interest and banking, business applications, powers and roots of numbers, and mensuration (including the metric system).
