Description:
This wooden surgical set contains two ebony-handled bistouries marked "Fries", and a steel saw blade marked "John / Friese / Baltimoreā€. The hinged wooden box has red velvet lining. A brass escutcheon imbedded into the lid, and is marked, W.P. Morgan M.D.
Wilbur P. Morgan practiced medicine in Baltimore. He is listed as a member of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland in its transactions for the years 1874 and 1884. He collected books, and donated many of them to the University of Virginia.
John A. Frise sold medical and dental instruments in Baltimore from about 1860 to 1871. His son Augustus Frise sold instruments from about 1873 to 1875.
