Prototype fiberoptic gastroscope developed at the University of Michigan by Basil Hirschkowitz (1925-2013), a physician from South Africa; C. Wilbur Peters (1918-1989), a physicist trained at Johns Hopkins University; and Larry Curtiss, a physics student.
