The Dan cast brass jewelry and other objects by the 19th century. They were known for the wearing of large amounts of jewelry, especially large anklets until the Liberian government banned the practice in the 1930s. This necklace alternates small rattles with pendants in the form of leopards teeth. The large central pendant would have been worn on the back.
Description:
Necklace of blue glass beads, fifteen pendant round rattles and sixteen copper alloy pendants in the form of leopard's teeth. At the back of the necklace is a Y-form pendant.
