This small lidded basket with its wonderful surviving colors was collected by a Peace Corps volunteer along the road south of Addis Ababa. Its size, shape, tight coils and secured lid identify it as a storage container for household goods such as spices. The surface patina supports the story told to the collector of years of use.
Description:
Coiled goblet shaped basket with knobbed lid, leather straps looping from the base to the shoulder and red and dark pigment.
