The Tuareg carve large, decorated wood bowls to serve food, such as millet porridge. This beautiful example has subtly flared sides and finely worked geometric designs around its rim; similar patterns are also found on Tuareg leatherwork and jewelry. The bowl is further embellished with two pieces of embossed copper alloy sheet metal through which an iron handle is attached.
