Today in Somalia the word waraf is used for "airmail," but its traditional meaning in southern Somalia is "slingshot." To use this weapon, a person holds one end in his hand, places a stone into the wide pocket section and puts the loop at the other end on his index finger. He swings the slingshot by his side until it builds up speed and can be raised over his head. He then releases the end and the stone flies to the target.
