Through out west Africa men weave narrow strips of cloth that are sewn together to make large rectangular pieces that can be used for clothing or household items. The suspended loom beater seperates the warp or long threads that have not yet had warp or cross threads passed through and is pulled forward by the weaver to tighten the rows of woven warp threads.
