Description:
Large head without body carved from a single block of black wood. Its features include bulbous, protruding eyes situated close together at the top of the cranium and separated by a thin, elongated nose. The bridge of the nose curves slightly outwards as it slopes down the face until it reaches the sharp pointed tip. Nostrils are small and remain close to the protruding tip of the nose. Beneath the nose, pursed lips project out, appearing parted. The face swoops down until the chin, which mimics the outward projection of the lips. The thin face is framed by cheekbones that carve around the eyes, creating wells beneath the eyes and crevices where the face meets the central bridge of the nose line.
Provenance:
Acquired from Ferdinand Haenggi, trustee of Sithole Estate
