Description:
Beaded work on canvas featuring in the foreground what appears to be a crouching human figure with legs bent at the knees, wide feet, and splayed toes. The figure’s arms are upraised and engage with a rectangular burden above that is supported by the large hands of an unseen figure positioned behind it. The background is composed of five overlapping human faces, all bearing the heavy-lidded eyes and rectangular noses of the central figure. Blue, gold, purple, and reddish-orange hues predominate along with stark white accents.

Purchased from the artist in Nigeria in 1974.
