Description:
Primarily orange-toned horizontally-oriented tapestry that features an ornately-patterned peacock. The background consists of vertical stripes of alternating light and dark orange with a band of red along the bottom that has a triangular patterned upper border with one break to the right of center in the form of a swirl. The top edge of the tapestry is patterned with a pattern of suspended red triangles, each with an orange circle at its center. The peacock stands with its body turned toward the proper right, but its head pointed to the proper left. Its wing and tail feathers are indicated with alternating bands of deep green, orange, and red. Its puffed out breast mimics so-called African print cloth and looks like vibrant yellow and green sunflowers against a field of brown. The tail, which extends more that two-times the width of the bird’s body toward the proper left, consists first of a pattern of navy and garnet chevrons with circles at their center which then merges into another pattern in which a navy, gold and red spiral is woven against a field of kelly green.
