Description:
Sound installation featuring three soundtracks: a motion-triggered central soundtrack, surround sound positioned at each of the four corners of the installation space, and 28 randomized soundtracks played from speakers installed on the walls. The 28 sound tracks feature the individual calls of a selection of hawkers from Balogun Market in Lagos, Nigeria, and the speakers for these are installed within enameled aluminum trays used in Nigerian markets. The trays feature fish, rooster, and apple motifs and provide the predominant visual element for the soundscape. The trays are configured on the walls to evoke the sense of hawkers on the move within a market.
