This massive bead like object is attributed to the Fulbe of Mali. This is based on collection history, and comparison of the designs on the object to motifs on gourds, body painting and a type of bracelet iknown only from field photographs. Its function whether as a pure ornament or as having an additional practical function as a weight is not known at this time.
