Staffs and ceremonial weapons are used to identify royal messengers and are used to mark rhythms in royal dances. Each king selected a symbol of his rule. For example, the shark)was the emblem of Behanzin, who ruled between 1889 and 1894. It refers to the meaning of his motto that like the shark, he would not surrender any of his kingdom.
Description:
Brass staff finial, curved and decorated with rosettes and heart motifs and surmounted by figure of a fish.
