Colin Powell's mother, Maud Ariel "Arie" McKoy, immigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica in 1923 when she was 22 years old. According to Powell's autobiography, this photograph was her original British passport photo.
Description:
A black-and-white photograph portrait of General Colin L. Powell’s mother, Maud Ariel (Mckoy) Powell. This photograph captures a portrait of Maud Ariel Powell seated in a wicker chair beside a staircase. She wears a chain necklace and round-neck top with button details. Her long wavy hair is pinned up and to the back of her head. On the reverse of the photograph inscribed in graphite is “w07-33431 / 2”.
