This photograph of General Colin Powell and President Barack Obama was displayed in the study of Powell's residence in McLean, Virginia. Although a longtime Republican, Powell endorsed Democratic candidate Obama during the 2008 U.S. presidential election. Powell served as an unofficial advisor to President Obama during his presidency.
Description:
A framed and inscribed photograph of General Colin L. Powell dining with President Barack Obama at the White House, Washington, D.C., April 2012. This photograph depicts General Powell and President Obama, seated at a dark brown table in a room of the White House, talking and eating together. Both men are dressed in white shirts, neckties, dark trousers, and black leather shoes. They sit in dark wooden chairs with orange-brown leather seats atop a reddish-brown carpet with white stars. There are large, framed paintings on the two walls inside of the white room, and two more just outside of the open black door leading to an adjacent area of the White House. In the bottom white sheet of the photograph is a handwritten inscription in black ink that reads: [To Colin – Thanks for the friendship and continued good counsel! / Barack Obama]. On the reverse of the photograph is a square white label from The White House Photo Office. The photograph (a) is housed inside of a square black wooden frame (b), set between glass and cardboard backing.
