The medal consists of a gold colored bar pin holding an orange and blue ribbon attached to a medal. The gold tone pin is rectangular shaped with a “C” clasp closure on the back. The ribbon is crimped to the front of the bar on each side. Attached to the bottom of the ribbon is a rectangular, gold colored medal held in place with two (2) jump rings. The obverse of the medal has a relief rectangular frame. Inside the frame is a relief depiction of an athlete depicted in a runner’s starting position on a track. Above his head is a relief text that reads [NEWARK / BD. Of ED.]. Below the runner is additional relief text that reads [INVITATION / TRACK MEET]. On the reverse of the medal, at the top is engraved text that reads [100 YD. DASH]. Along the bottom edge is a stamped hallmark that reads [1/10 G.F.] and a stamped maker’s mark for Murchison [MURCHISON / NEWARK] inside an inverted trapezoid outline.
