Description:
A mini zine from the Soul Garden of Neurodiversity Mini Zine Pack titled Allyship is Sacrifice, designed by Jennifer White-Johnson. The mini zine is constructed from a single sheet of white, heavy weight paper that has a slit at the center and has been folded into eighths, creating a six page booklet. The front of the single page is divided into eight panels which form the six interior pages and the front and back covers. The back of the page is blank. In its folded format, the front cover is pink with a black shield graphic with pink text at the center that reads [ALLYSHIP / IS / SACRIFICE]. The back cover is white and centered at the top is a black shield graphic with white text that reads [WE MUST / NOT LET / ABLEISM / WIN]. Printed in small black text below are the designer credits and contact information. The interior pages include color graphics, black text, and illustrations. Page one features the definition of Neurodiversity/Neurodivergent by the National Symposium on Neurodiversity at Syracuse University, 2011. Page two is a color illustration of a young girl. The girl is depicted inside an illustrated arch shape filled with starry space imagery, cut outs of white flowers with yellow centers, and a reddish planet at the bottom center of the graphic which forms a halo around the illustration of the girl. The girl is facing the viewer and wearing a slight smile on her face. She is wearing a pink shirt and her hair is pulled up into a top knot, accented with another white flower. The third and fourth pages feature a large graphic of two red carnations and black text that reads [ADVOCATE FOR / COMMUNITY / SUPPORT, / ACCESS, AND / ACCEPTANCE]. The fifth page features a color illustration of a boy. The boy is depicted inside an illustrated arch shape filled with starry space imagery, cut outs of yellow and brown flowers with orange centers, and a reddish planet at the bottom center of the graphic which forms a halo around the illustration of the boy. The boy is shown in three-quarters profile with his smiling face turned towards the viewer and he is leaning slightly forward. He is wearing red jacket over a V-neck sweater. Printed on page six is the text [KEYWORDS / AUTISM – AUTISTIC – BLACK / SOLIDARITY LATINX – DISABILITY PRIDE / ANTI-ABLEISM – NEURODIVERSITY / DISBILITY JUSTICE – MOTHERING / READICAL JOY]. In the bottom right corner is a small, black graphic of the Neurodiversity Solidarity Fist symbol designed by White-Johnson that combines a Black Power fist overlaid with a white infinity symbol on the palm and wrist.
