Founded in 1978 by coach Neal Henderson, the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Program is the nation’s oldest minority youth hockey program. Since its inception, the program has trained out of the Fort Dupont Ice Arena in the largely African American Southeast quadrant of Washington D.C. The Fort Dupont program has been the model for other inner-city based hockey programs across the country. The program's mission is to provide total training for all participants and to provide educational purpose, discipline, and self-esteem.
