He then introduces his guest, Emory Douglas, and tells him “Alright, so, tell us who you are and what you do.” The episode continues with Douglas providing a short autobiography. Some of the topics they discuss include: disability in both their families; Douglas’ incarceration at the age of 15; Douglas’ introduction to the Black Panther Party; Douglas’ transition from the black arts movement to the Panther movement; Douglas’ idiosyncratic design style and his ability to integrate art and politics; his interactions with people like Amiri Baraka, Huey Newton and Bobby Seal; mentorship in the design community; diversity in the profession; historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs); his post-Panther life; as well as his daughter’s current work.
