Episode 146 of the Revision Path podcast. The episode begins with host Maurice Cherry advertising Facebook Design as one of the show’s sponsors. He also advertises jobs that are posted on the podcast’s Job Board. The show’s soundtrack fades in and Cherry announces the other sponsors: MailChimp, Hover and SiteGround. He also reads two other announcements, before encouraging listeners to become patrons by visiting the show’s Patreon page.
The interview segment begins with Cherry inviting the episode’s guest, Andrea Pippins, to introduce herself and talk about the inspiration for her book, I Love My Hair. Some of the topics they discuss in the interview include: self-care techniques; how Pippins became interested in design; the difference between present and past design educators; diversity in design; designers she admires, such as Paula Scher; her mentors, such as Tim Smith, who worked at the Smithsonian Institution. They also discuss Pippins’ work that would be featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) and her time interning at the Smithsonian.
Toward the end of the interview, Cherry asks Pippins where the audience can find her. Cherry then encourages his listeners to support Pippins by buying her books, and the two thank each other. In the outro, music fades in, as Cherry thanks the listeners and sponsors. He also names the production team, advertises their merchandise and implores listeners to write reviews online, purchase merchandise and become patrons of the show.
