Description:
A paperback book titled "Tambo: His Jokes & Funny Sayings" published by Wehman Brothers. The cover is tan paper with red printed text and a center illustration of a Blackface minstrel character, sitting in a chair with a tambourine on his knee. Text at the top reads [Price 15 Cents.] The title is printed around the center image: [TAMBO / HIS JOKES / AND / FUNNY SAYINGS]. Along the bottom is [PUBLISHED BY WEHMAN BROS., NEW YORK]. The back cover is also printed in red and features a full page advertisement for [WEHMAN'S / MINSTREL / SKETCHES / CONDUNDRUMS AND JOKES], featuring an illustration of minstrel group on stage.
Statement:
Objects depicting racist and/or stereotypical imagery or language may be offensive and disturbing, but the NMAAHC aims to include them in the Collection to present and preserve the historical context in which they were created and used.
