This stereograph card depicts a baby sitting on a wooden surface. The baby has a broad smile, wears a loose dress and sits with legs stretched out in front. The stereograph card consists of two similar images side by side, with the images in the center of the card. At either end of the card is vertical script. On the left side margin is script that reads "Keystone View Company, / Manufacturers and Publishers." Script on the left side margin reads "Meadville, PA. St. louis, MO. / Copyright 1897 by B.L. Singley." On the bottom right margin is script that reads "6050 - “I isn't bin borned very long."
Objects depicting racist and/or stereotypical imagery or language may be offensive and disturbing, but the NMAAHC aims to include them in the Collection to present and preserve the historical context in which they were created and used. Objects of this type provide an important historical record from which to study and evaluate racism.
