The case has a lid and a base. the inside of the lid has gold and black text that reads "This Key to the City of Detroit is presented to / Althea Gibson / Honorary Citizen / May 19, 1961" Hand written in blue ink is "Louis C. Miriani." On the left side of the box lid is the seal for the City of Detroit.
