Black and white photograph of a large group of people standing in front of the façade of a church. The group is arrange in a number of rows. Some are seated and some standing. In the middle and two-thirds of the right side of the image are three (3) doorways with the outer two (2) open. The doors are capped with tympanums filled with stained glass windows. Behind the doors, above is large stained glass window with a series of rectangles. The church exterior is a white paneled exterior. Along the bottom in white text is the image caption [FIFTY SIX ANNUAL SESSION OF THE CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE A.M.E. CHURCH, LOS ANGELES 1923]. On the reverse in the lower left corner is a stamp with text and blanks to fill in. Only the last line is filled with a penned note [MIRIAM MATTHEWS]. The stamp is four (4) lines [COLLECTION OF MIRIAM MATTHEWS/PHOTOGRAPHER/SOURCE/PLEASE CREDIT]. To the right of the stamp, in the middle of the back, is a printed label [56th Annual Session of the/California Conference of the/A.M.E. Church, held in Los/Angeles, 1923]. In the upper left corner is the number [8] circled.
