Description:
A wood and metal printing plate that reads "Mme C.J. Walker Beauty Shoppes." This plate is constructed of a thin metal sheet with the letters in reverse and in high relief. Nailed to the metal plate is a thick block of dense wood of the same shape. The plate is rectangular in shape with a smaller rectangular section beneath to accommodate the cursive tails of the letters 'y' and 'p.' The plate is discolored with old ink and some of the nails protrude along the rim. There are numerous scratches on both metal and wood, indicating heavy use.
