Description:
An IAAF gold medal with attached ribbon. The medal has images and words in relief on both the obverse and reverse. The obverse features a [a'87] in large forced-perspective and dramatically raised type in the center of the medal. The letters are striped horizontally green, yellow, red, and blue. Around the outer edge of the medal are the words [campionati mondiali di atletica / Roma 29 agosto / 6 settembre 1987]. The reverse features a winged female figure wearing a flowing robe and standing on a globe with a laurel crown held above her head. Above the figure are the letters [I A A F]. There is a triangular piece of metal attaching the medal to a green, yellow, red, blue, and black striped ribbon. Engraved into the obverse of the triangle are the words [STAFFETTA 4 X 100 M. / U.S.A.].
