Description:
A "Midwife's Certificate of Retirement" issued by the Virginia State Department of Health to Amanda Carter. The certificate has an intricate blue scalloped border and the pre-printed text in black ink has been completed with typewritten text also in black ink. Center text reads [THIS CERTIFICATE IS PRESENTED TO / AMANDA CARTER OF FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA / PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY WHO HAS BEEN A MIDWIFE / FOR 35 YEARS. SHE HAS RETURNED HER PERMIT ON THIS / 1ST DAY OF JULY 1987 AND WILL NOT / ATTEND ANY OTHER CASES.]. It is signed at lower right by the directors of the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health and the local health department. The back is blank with no printing, marks, or inscriptions.
