Description:
An Ebony magazine, June 1966, featuring the cover article, “The Natural Look: New Mode for Negro Women,” Vol. XXI No. 8. The front cover features a color photograph of a Diana Smith. Smith is depicted from the neck up and she is looking at the viewer. She has short cropped hair, a thick dark sweater, and an earring dangling from her proper right ear. To the left the image is the main cover line in black text that reads [THE / NATURAL / LOOK / New mode / for Negro/ women]. Another byline above in black text reads [ELLIGBLE / BACHELORS / FOR 1966]. In the upper left corner is the publication mast head, a red banner with white block lettering that reads: [EBONY]. Above the mast head is black text that reads [A JOHNSON PUBLICATION 6[encircled]]. Two additional bylines, to the right of the mast head, in black text reads [INTEGRATION: The Great / Dilemma Of The Church] and below, [WOMAN LAWYER / IN MISSISSIPPI]. In the lower left corner, in red text, is the publication date and price: [JUNE 1966 / USA 50¢]. The bottom center of the front cover has a white address label sticker with black type. A fifth byline, printed in red text in the bottom right corner reads, [ANNUAL BASEBALL ROUNDUP: YEAR OF THE HOLDOUT] with the last four words obscured by the mailing label. The back cover of the magazine features a full sized advertisement for Marlboro cigarettes. There are one hundred and ninety-four (194) interior pages with color and black-and-white images, illustrations, and text.
