Description:
A wicker armchair from the Rock Rest Tourist Home. The chair features a wicker wrapped wooden frame and a seat cushion support. The wicker and wood have been painted a light blue and the cushion is a darker greenish blue. The chair has a high, continuous back support and sides with a closed basket weave. The narrow arms and the frame of the continuous back support also feature a closed weave. The chair also has plaiting along the chair’s front that spans upwards across the outside edges of the arms and extends up and around the top edge of the back support. The seat front has a closed weave with arched aprons below on the front and sides. The back is open exposing the crisscrossed stretchers. The seat cushion support is constructed from basket woven fabric strips tacked to the wooden frame. The rear legs, crisscrossed stretchers, and front legs are wicker wrapped. The front legs feature bulbous feet.
