Elaborately decorated folding hand fan. Sticks are ivory and intricately carved and gilded with people, cherubs, birds, and floral designs. The birds are surrounded with inset blue and white stones. The decoration on the guard sticks appears to have mother of pearl behind the ivory. The textile leaf is finely hand-painted with three scenes and decorated with sewn on sequins of various colors. The left scene has a woman watching a balloon in the sky and the right scene has a man watching a balloon. The allegorical center scene is the largest and depicts a muse and cherubs. The reverse is more simply decorated with a few hand-painted flowers. The head of the fan is inset with large clear stones.
