Summary:
Each astronaut aboard a spacecraft has a personal hygiene kit like this, stocked with items for cleanliness and grooming during the mission. Contents typically include a comb, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shaving supplies, lip balm, deodorant, skin cream, nail clippers, sleep mask, and ear plugs. The items are held in place inside the case by loops, pouches, and velcro strips. Removable name tags identify each kit during a mission, but afterward the kit cases are emptied, cleaned, and returned to the equipment inventory for use on another mission. This empty personal hygiene kit was used by Story Musgrave on one of his six space shuttle missions. NASA then transferred it and a variety of personal hygiene products to the Museum.
