Description:
A handmade notebook dated Meiji 38 (1905) created by someone with the surname of Shibuya, used to keep an album of scraps of striped cotton fabric--possibly the production record of a small-scale workshop. The samples include some uses of chemical dyes introduced to Japan in the late nineteenth century. The back of the notebook contains pages of practice for writing conventional phrases used in correspondance.
