Description:
Slender four-sided form with rounded corners, rising from circular trimmed, concave foot; wheel-thrown cylindrical vessel reformed after throwing.
Clay: cream-colored, fine-grained stoneware clay
Glaze: double coating of translucent, crackled, bubbly glaze, near colorless but with cool bluish tone overall, warmer yellow tone in some areas near rim and base, depending on thickness and texture of glaze.
Decoration: none.

Inscriptions:
The vase is contained in a paulownia wood box inscribed by the artist. The inscription on the front of the box lid reads: (upper right) hyoretsu yu [crackled ice glaze]; (center) kabin [vase]; (lower left) Rokubei [hexagonal black seal: Sei or kiyo]. The character used for "glaze" is an uncommon Chinese character favored by Rokubei and may be said to be typical of the Chinese-flavored special names chosen by Nitten artists continuing in the line of Itaya Hazan (Nihon no toji gendai hen, pp. 251-52).
